Ex-perm secs plan colloquium to boost public service, honour Asiodu

Council of Retired Federal Permanent Secretaries (CORFEPS) has unveiled plan to X-ray Nigeria’s public service and to proffer solutions on the way forward. This is part of items lined up for the celebration of 2024 CORFEPS Week.


One of the highlights of the celebration will be the recognition of Chief Philip Asiodu, who currently sits as the chairman of the Board of Trustees and was the foundation Chairman of the Council.

This is contained in a statement, issued yesterday by the National Publicity Secretary of the Council, Dr Goke Adegoroye.

According to the statement, CORFEPS Week 2024 will be holding in pursuant of its aims and objectives, and under its current chairman, who has decided to institute the CORFEPS WEEK as a yearly event, preferably in the first quarter of each year, commencing this year.

The week will feature Annual General Meeting (AGM) as stipulated in its Articles of Association, where members will focus on an issue of national importance, which will be exhaustively discussed with a view to providing recommendations on the way forward.

The theme for this year’s colloquium is Reflections on Nigeria’s Public Service: Way Forward for Good Governance.

The lead speakers, according to the statements, are a retired Perm Sec in the Presidency, Dr Bukar Usman, who is to give the general overview; retired Perm Sec, Federal Ministry of Labour, Dr. Timiebi Koripamo Agary, who will present the insider’s perspective; while the outgoingManaging Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian, Mr Martins Oloja, will present the outsider’s perspective.

It added that there wpoul be three discussants, all retired perm secs, namely Dr Godknows B. Igali; Amunna Lawan Ali and Dr Goke Adegoroye.


The statement reads: “The CORFEPS Week this year has been slated for March 5 to 7, 2024 and it is coming at an opportune period to enable us celebrate one of the icons of the Nigerian Civil Service, Izoma Philip Asiodu, founding Chairman of CORFEPS and Chairman of the Council’s Board of Trustees, who is 90 years old today, February 26, 2024.”

The statement describes CORFEPS as a body duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, with membership comprising top civil servants, who retired after attaining the grade of Permanent Secretary and higher.

“Our Motto is: Continuing Patriotic Service”, it added.

The current Chairman of the council is Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, a former Federal Permanent Secretary and retired Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, who upon retirement from the civil service was appointed Minister of Defence and later Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
