The 2022 Commonwealth Games will hold in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK) from July 28 to August 8.

The judokas were picked after the trials held recently at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos from February 22 to 24.

The selected athletes are Adeyanju Bukola (78kg), Joy Asonye, Azeesat Adijat, Esther Augustine (70kg); James Cecilia, Enku Ewa-Ekuta, Victoria Agbodobiri (63kg), Telumo Dose and Agu Blessing (57kg).

According to the federation’s spokesman, Ikpo Igbinoba, the camping will open on March 29 at a yet to be disclosed venue.

Recall that NJF President, Musa Oshodi, had promised that the federation would leave no stone unturned to ensure Nigeria prepares adequately for a meaningful impact at the Games.

Oshodi said: “Our primary assignment is to make our judokas happy by organising many tournaments and good welfare package. Henceforth, judokas won’t be training without reasons for it.

“After these trials, we will call winners in these categories to camp where they continue the drills for the Commonwealth Games.”
