Enugu tribunal dismisses application to stop Mbah’s inauguration

Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, yesterday, dismissed application seeking to stop the inauguration of Peter Mbah as the governor of the state on May 29.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) and its governorship candidate in the March 18 governorship election, Nnamdi Omeje, and his People Redemption Party (PRP) counterpart, Chris Agu, had prayed the tribunal to stop the inauguration until the determination of the matter.

They had stated that it would amount to giving undue advantage to Mbah, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election.

They also alleged several infractions surrounding his election, as well as his candidature, and asked the court to restrain him from being sworn in as the next governor of the state.

But in a ruling, yesterday, the tribunal dismissed the application for lacking in merit, describing the matter as “novel,” which needed to be tested.
