Enugu community invokes deity against vandals at newly built hospital

Concerned residents at the vandalised hospital

Moved by the level of vandalisation on its newly built hospital, the people of Ogurute Uno community, Igbo-Eze North Local Council of Enugu State, have handed over the facility to a deity for protection.

It was learnt that a few months after the general hospital was completed, its facilities, such as a brand new ambulance, children’s beds, solar panel and poles, TV sets, among other valuables were carted away.

In a viral video that circulated in Enugu, yesterday, one of the community leaders lamented that they were being frustrated by unknown persons who were stealing the equipment.

He said they would no longer fold their arms and watch as men of the underworld continue to inflict pains.

He said: “The people here today are people of the Ogurute Uno community. This is Ogurute Ulo General Hospital built for us by the government. The government brought us equipment for taking care of the sick in our villages. They also equipped this hospital to enable it to function to the benefits of our people.

“But thieves have stolen the equipment such as air-conditioners, solar batteries, solar panels, an ambulance bus, TV sets, wheelchairs, stretchers, ceiling fans and children’s beds.”

He added: “And to think that these things were provided not too long ago, is more worrisome. This is the main reason we have come together and agreed to hand over this hospital to the deities here.

“Yes, it may look as if we’re going too far. But we have suffered from the wickedness of man. And we want to put a stop to it.”
