‘Education remains potent instrument for development’

Two groups, United Way Greater Nigeria and Casava Insurance have said that education remains a potent instrument for growth and no child should be left behind.


They commented at the Books/Art Buddies Programme, a collaborative effort between them. The programme was concluded at St. Peters (Faji) Primary School, St. Mary Girls Primary School, and St. Mary Convent Primary School Lagos Island.

The programme was aimed at empowering young children between the ages of four and nine with essential knowledge and skills, while fostering a love for reading and creativity by reaching out to 100 students across the three participating schools.


Story book for children, donated by the renowned novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, were distributed to the kids. These captivating books not only enriched the students’ literary experience but also served as a testament to the power of storytelling in igniting young minds.

The success of the Books/Art Buddies Programme underscores the commitment of UWGN and Casava Insurance to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children across Nigerian communities. Through collaborative efforts and shared values, they continue to strive towards creating quality education and learning outcomes.

Executive Director, UWGN, ‘Deola Durodola, said: “We are grateful to Casava Insurance for partnering with United Way Greater Nigeria in our mission to promote literacy and education in Lagos Schools. We believe that programmes like this would instill a lasting appreciation for reading among the children, thereby positively influencing their education and reading habits.”


Also, Head of Business Development at Casava Insurance, Daisy Osuagwu-Akomolafe, said:  “Education is a potent instrument, and we at Casava firmly uphold the principle that every child deserves the opportunity to acquire knowledge and flourish.”

She added: “Donating these books is part of our broader objective to ensure that good education is accessible and equitable for children across Nigeria and Africa at large,”.
