To engage Nigerian youths productively, the Federal Ministry of Education is prioritising skills acquisition, particularly in the garment sector, as a means of creating employment and grow wealth among the young people in the country.

Speaking in Abuja, while receiving a delegation from the Ladi Memorial Foundation (LMF), the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, said there were growing opportunities for export in the garment industry that should be harnessed by young minds.

He gave an example of how they were  in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the  African Union meeting, the 2024 summit and throughout the period, the President was wearing clothes and cap made in Nigeria.

“That’s an inspiration and I was so amazed when the President of Brazil came to President Tinubu and requested to have similar clothes from Nigeria. It shows we have a lot of talents in Nigeria”.

“If you look at the eight-point agenda and education priority focus, you will find out that skill is a major thematic area, that is why we are making efforts to review the curriculum to reintegrate and focus towards skill acquisition.”
