Osun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Michael Adaralewa has deployed 1,520 personnel for covert and overt operations during and after the Easter celebration.

The Commandant also ordered Area Commanders and Divisional officers in all Local Councils and area commands across the State to deploy effective operational teams for constant patrol of every nook and cranny of the state.

This, he said, is to ensure criminally minded people do not have a hiding place to operate before, during and after the celebration.

Spokesperson for the command, Kehinde Adeleke, in a statement, yesterday quoted the Commandant as saying that a total of 1,520 personnel have been deployed for the operations.

According to her, the personnel comprised the State Command Tactical Teams, such as the Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Special Armed Squad, Female Armed Squad, Disaster Management Unit and Chemical, Biological, Radiological Nuclear and Explosive Unit.

“In addition to providing security for citizens and residents, they would also protect critical national assets in the state.

“Officers shall be deployed to public places, worship centres, recreation centres, shopping malls, identified criminal’s hideouts and would discharge their duties with respect to fundamental human rights,” she said.

The State Commandant, who enjoined the personnel to work in synergy with other sister agencies for a hitch fee celebration, said security of the people is very sacrosanct, and therefore, the personnel of the Corps must be on their toes to protect lives and property at all times.

Adaralewa urged members of the public to celebrate within the confines of the law, be watchful, imbibe the culture of moderation and report suspicious movements and persons to the nearest security agency for immediate action.

While wishing them a happy celebration, he called on Christian faithful to practice all the good teachings that the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ taught.

He called on those who intend to travel for the celebration to avoid over-speeding and night travels.

Similarly, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has assured motoring public of adequate deployment of personnel, including traffic management materials for seamless traffic operations before, during and after the festive periods.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who disclosed this yesterday at the Agency’s Headquarters, felicitated with all Lagosians as they celebrate the Easter.

He disclosed that all operational heads, including the newly restructured Agency’s District Comptrollers, Commanders and Zonal Heads would be fully on ground for seamless traffic management during the period.

Bakare-Oki reiterated that the Provost, Monitoring and Surveillance Units of the Agency would be out to closely monitor performance and ensure that all LASTMA officers on the road effectively and efficiently display civility and high level professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He said: “I specially congratulate all Lagosians on this occasion of Easter Celebration and I assure all road users, particularly motoring public that LASTMA personnel would be deployed to every strategic location to adequately monitor vehicular movements across the state.”

Stressing further, Mr Bakare-Oki maintained that the structural arrangements and deployments put on ground for seamless traffic flow during the celebrations would be sustained and improved upon for the forthcoming Eid-Fitri festivity.

“Every motorist must obey traffic regulations, drive within speed limit, must avoid reckless driving and also carry out regular maintenance works on their vehicles before putting them on the road to avoid road accidents,” he added.

He also assured motorists that LASTMA officer’s presence would be felt at all the major road intersections along with regular patrol, especially along notorious traffic flash points.

While enjoining both commercial and private car owners, including other road users to strictly comply with traffic rules and regulations, Mr. Bakare-Oki, warned that any traffic infraction or disobedience would attract serious sanctions as contained in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 as amended.
