The Global Amnesty Watch International has called on the police and the directorate of state security services (DSS) to probe into the attempt to assassinate the Deputy Spokesman, of the House of Representatives, Dr Philip Agbese while on a routine Easter visit to his constituents at Igumale, Ado local council of Benue State.
Led by Mr Solomon Semaka Solomon, the group in a statement contended that thete is the urgent need to arrest, interrogate and bring to book all those directly and remotely involved in the despicable act.
The group argued that the mere mention of the deputy speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mrs Lamin Ogenyi and the caretaker chairman for Ado Local Government Area, one Mr Agbese Onazi all of same area in the evil attempt to take away the life of their representative for political supremacy suggest a total lack of political base hence the resort to violence.
The group admonished Mrs Lamin Ogenyi and cohorts to challenge Dr Philip Agbese by bringing more dividends to the people than resort to primitive attempts on the life of the congressman.
The group thereby stated that it would take all legitimate steps to ensure that the culprits are brought to book to face the full prescription of the law.
“We make haste to remind the sponsors and accomplices of evil that the period for tensed electioneering processes are over and it is time to redeem the promises made to the people pre-2023 general elections,” they noted.
” The sudden re-introduction of political violence as a way to establish the apparent missing political presence is a gross betrayal of the people of Ado Local Government Area by the duo of Mrs Lamin Ogenyi, Onazi Agbese and cohorts. The people of Enone and by far the Nigerian state does not condone violence in bonding with their leaders of choice.
“We call on the deputy speaker Mrs Lamin Ogenyi and the caretaker chairman for Ado Local Government Area who are being fingered in the heinous crime to take away life to come clean on their alleged roles in the assassination attempt on the life of Dr Agbese who is excellently serving the people of ENONE and Nigerians at the highest levels of government as he doubles as Spokesman of the Constitution Review Committee. Dr Agbese is now an asset beyond local power play shenanigans especially; and if, it will not improve the living standard of ordinary men and women of ENONE constituency.
“Dr Philip Agbese for the umpteenth time remains above partisan pettiness and primitive politics in whatever form and is commited to reviving the hopes of the people beyond the reach of desperate opportunist seeking local political relevance without the urge to add value to the people.
“Dr Philip Agbese to our knowledge stands commited to improving the bond with his people without prejudice to the overblown and over bloated ego of inconsequential opportunist masquerading as politicians in their forgotten corners of existence.”
