Do Right Initiative tackles corruption, moral decline

The Do Right Initiative, a movement campaigning for a culture of excellence in Nigeria, has sought ways to tackle corruption and moral decline in the society.

In a webcast held recently, the initiative held a conversation, which was attended by some prominent Niverian leaders to addressed the problem and proposed solutions. The webcast highlighted the urgent need to combat corruption, uphold honesty and promote accountability at all levels of the society.

The Do Right Initiative, spearheaded by the Do Right Awareness Initiative, aimed to address the pervasive challenges of lawlessness and moral decay in Nigeria.

Senior Pastor of Guiding Light Assembly, Pastor Wale Adefarasin, said, “Corruption affects everyone, from the high to the low. We need to focus on honesty, integrity, and the values that create an incorruptible society.”

Beyond “The Tone at the Top” Chief Operating Officer (COO), Conrad Clark Nigeria Limited, Ayo Alamotu, emphasised the need for individual responsibility, saying, “People are paralysed by focusing on ‘the tone at the top’. We need to take action ourselves and do the right thing, regardless of what others do.”

Adesuwa Adewole of MCIPM highlighted the importance of long-term thinking. “A nation’s prosperity is built on the values of its people. We must reawaken a sense of uprightness and reject the culture of lawlessness that pervades our national life.”

To tackle these menace, the speakers emphasised the need for faith communities and citizen empowerment.

“Religious leaders can play a crucial role by reminding their congregations about the importance of ethical behavior and leading by example.

“Implementing clear policies against corruption and educating staff on ethical conduct are essential steps businesses can take.

“Empowering citizens through education and open communication allows them to hold themselves and their leaders accountable,” they stated.
