Digital right: NCC, NBA partner on capacity building for young lawyers

Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), in accord with its mandate of building institutional capacity, yesterday, organised a workshop to train young lawyers across the country on digital environment right.

The capacity building training, in collaboration with Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch and World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Nigeria Office, aims at enhancing the knowledge of lawyers on intellectual property and capacity copyright.

Speaking during training, Chairman of NBA Abuja branch, Afam Okeke, explained that the NBA is committed to the development of young lawyers.


Okeke said: “This training is designed to give young lawyers, who are interested in intellectual property rights and copyright, the right tools and knowledge necessary to hone their skills in this area and if desired, carve a niche for themselves in the subject area.”

“Intellectual property rights copyrights are goldmine of opportunities, and when properly harnessed, have the potential of setting one on a highly profitable career trajectory.”

In his keynote address, the Director-General, NCC, Dr. John Asein, stated that the training would enhance the knowledge horizon of judges on matters of Intellectual Property (IP) in Nigeria.

He said: “The copyright law is a good entry point into intellectual property. From there you begin to see others areas of technology, digital environment is free, and there is so much loaded in the sphere.”
