DG decries low number of women in governance

The Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has decried participation by few women in governance in Nigeria despite efforts to increase their representation in every sphere of government in the country.


He spoke, yesterday, in his welcome address at the opening session of a two-day workshop on Advancing Gender Responsive Legislations Through the Establishment of Women Caucus in the National Assembly, organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) in partnership with United Nations Women, which took place at Protea Hotel, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The event was declared open by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who considered the event very important on gender balance in governance and the theme as very apt.

The event was attended by parliamentarians from Sierra-Leone, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi and Cote d’ivoire.
