Delta: Police kill armed robbery suspect, nab two others

The Delta State Police Command yesterday, killed a suspected armed robber/ kidnapper and neutralised two others in Udu local council of the state.

Police Spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, said operatives attached to Ovwian Aladja received information that two members of a dreaded armed robbery/kidnap gang were sighted at a club in Udu.

He said following information, the DPO in the area, CSP Aliyu Shaba swiftly mobilised his men who stormed the club, where one of the suspects was arrested.

According to him, when the arrested suspect was interrogated, he confessed to be a member of the gang and later led officers to their hideout in Udu, where the gang engaged the police, in a gun duel.


Edafe explained that while the police were in a gun duel with the suspected armed robbers, one of them was neutralised by the operatives.

“The suspect arrested at the club was fatally wounded in the cross fire while other members of the gang escaped, but One AK47 rifle and 27 rounds of 7.62 ammunition were recovered from them”, the PPRO said.

He said the suspect with injury died before he could get to the hospital, while manhunt for other fleeing members of the gang is on.

The Police image maker also disclosed that operatives of raiders squad deployed to Oghara on Sunday raided suspected cultists hideout at the back of Oghara Grammar school and recovered one AK47 rifle, one double barrel gun and cartridges.

In a related development, the Police arrested a 49-year- old Titus Sunday in connection with stolen generators in Porthar-Court, Rivers State.

He said there were series of “complaints received by the Command on the activities of hoodlums who break into people’s houses and steal their generators”.

“Following this, Alli, issued a marching order to DPOs, especially within the Asaba metropolis to fish out the perpetrators or risk being removed as a DPOs. Acting on this directives, the DPO GRA gathered intelligence that led suspect’s arrest and interrogation, whereby he confessed to be part of the syndicate that specialises in stealing generators within Asaba metropolis,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ari Mohammed Alli, said the suspect led operatives to Awka, where one 220KVA generator stolen along Mariam Babangida way Asaba, was recovered and their hideout in Asaba, where seven other suspected stolen soundproof generators were recovered.
