Cut rising debt, embrace inclusiveness Akinola tells govt

The Presiding Bishop, Rhema Christian Church (RCCT) and the Apostolic Presbyter at Christ Global Network (CGN), Bishop Taiwo Akinola, yesterday, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to look for permanent workable solutions to the nation’s rising debt profile, as it is a burden that would be felt by unborn children if not controlled.

He said that the search should be a key priority of Tinubu-led administration, because reducing the debt would boost business, create employment for the teeming youths and attract foreign investors to the country.

Speaking at the New-wine/Fresh Fire Conference by Christ Global Network (CGN) at the RCCT Headquarters, Ota, Ogun State, the Bishop stated that the church supports any loan channeled into productive ventures and infrastructural development, rather than on consumer products.

Commending the new administration for the subsidy removal and working to provide palliative measures to cushion its effects, Akinola stressed that government should lay emphasis on bringing back the refineries and create enabling environment for investment in the refining sector of the economy to thrive, saying this will be a way out of the subsidy controversies.

The Apostolic Presbyter applauded the coming of Dangote Refinery, as it will bring a significant impact on fuel supply dynamics, including easing pressure on the economy, especially when combined with the ongoing revamping of the other refineries in the country.

He cautioned the managers of the new refinery against the temptation of being a monopoly, as doing so would have negative effect on Nigerians, especially the poor.

Akinola also called the new administration to shun the evil of lopsided appointments and implement policies in favour of all Nigerians, irrespective of the region one comes from.

He said: “If Nigeria, in spite of its diversities, is truly a nation where everyone is equal, let this new administration show a clear departure from the past by embracing inclusiveness, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, region or gender.”
