Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), yesterday, strengthened its commitment to the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), saying that the goal was to harmonise global trade regimes, increase efficiency and facilitate trade.
It also noted that the TMP trade operations aimed at creating a business-friendly environment and attracting investment to boost economic growth.
The Customs Project Implementation Committee, head, Bukola Omoniyi, disclosed in Abuja, during the Media Tour and Sensitisation of Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) activities, showcased NCS’s progress in digitalising trade processes and enhancing transparency.
She explained that TMP would automate the business processes of Customs by enhancing the experience of stakeholders in the trade value chain and increasing transparency.
In his remarks, the Manager at Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) Limited, Ahmed Ogunsola, explained that the TMP would enhance revenue collection, improve compliance, and strengthen border security.
He said: “There is 100 per cent knowledge transfer in everything that we are doing, and then jointly deploying these solutions. Customers will continue to perform all customs activities and operations, none of those have been concessioned to anyone.”
Meanwhile, the Customs spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, described the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) as an effort by the Comptroller-General of Customs to consolidate on previous gains and a positive step towards enhancing the professionalism and integrity of the NCS.
