Lagos State Cooperative Federation (LASCOFED) has asked Lagos State Government for 50 acres for construction of houses for members.

The request is contained in a goodwill message by the LASCOFED President, Mr. Oladipo Shobule, last week to commemorate this year’s International Day of Cooperatives, which holds every first Saturday in July.

According to Shobule, the state government is expected to provide land for the national housing programme, while the Federal Government builds on it for the benefit of citizens, who will pay for the houses through mortgages that will be created.

He said: “I will like to call the attention of Lagos State Government to the National Social Housing Programme for which the government is expected to provide land while the Federal government builds, being one of the initiatives under the sustainability plans to cushion the
effect of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

“As a group, the cooperative movement in Lagos State is interested in this programme and therefore uses this medium to request for allocation of 50 acres of land to LASCOFED in any part of the state for the benefit of cooperators.”

He charged cooperative members to be more innovative for business continuity and members’ satisfaction by exploring partnerships towards rebuilding better together.
