Coalition seeks Rimin-Gado’s sack, re-visit of 2006 report on Kwankwaso

Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado

A coalition of non-profit organisations, Good Governance and Change Initiative (GGCI), yesterday, demanded immediate resignation or sack of Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado for alleged partisanship and ineptitude.

It also requested a re-visit to the 2006 white paper that indicted presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, over land scandal.

Rising from a Good Governance Appraisal summit in Kano, the coalition, comprising rights advocates, owners of properties demolished recently in Kano and other stakeholders, decried actions and policies of Governor Abba Yusuf so far in the state.

The group alleged that the former governor and leader of Kwankwasiyya Movement was found guilty of allocating lands used for praying by an Islamic group, monument among others to friends and associates, the same accusation against immediate past Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

In a communiqué issued after the summit, the coalition resolved that Kano government should stop further demolition of properties of innocent citizens with immediate effect.

Alleging that Rimin-Gado allowed himself to the bought by a political interest to execute a script, the group said he is no longer competent to occupy the office.

The communiqué was signed by the National Coordinator, GGCI, Okpokwu Ogenyi; National Coordinator, Progressives League of Youth Voters, Abdul Shuaibu and National Coordinator of Northern Nigeria Civil Service Group.

According to the communiqué, the government should, as a matter of urgency, compile a comprehensive list of victims of the demolition and commence the process of compensation.

“The government should set up a committee to verify genuine landowners with the view to return their property to them. Governor Yusuf should take his time to study the handover note of the previous administration, instead of taking hasty decisions, bearing in mind that government is a continuum.

“The state anti-corruption commission has completely been politicised, especially with the appointment of a partisan and card-carrying member of NNPP as chairman and, therefore, Rimi-Gado should either resign honourably or be sacked immediately.”
