Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, has appealed to aggrieved contestants of the last elections to approach the courts for redress and avoid violence in any form.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the umpire of the last elections, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and appealed the Commission to improve on hitches experienced at the last polls in future elections.
Aba made the appeal at the opening ceremony of the Method Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos Mainland, Iwaya Circuit’s 29th Diocesan Synod with the theme: ‘Contending For The Faith’ at Hoare’s Memorial Methodist Church Cathedral, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.
Aba also called on the leadership of the country to ensure a united country, where the youth would be proud of their country and shun the drive for greener pastures search abroad.
He said, “While most Nigerians are united in their criticism of political leadership across the land, it must be noted that leadership is a reflection of who we are as citizens.
“We believe, as the first Church that predates the founding of our nation in 1914 that the coming together of over 400 ethnic nationalities to form the nation called Nigeria is not an accident, but the work of God, which must be upheld with prayers, hard work and personal commitment.”
Meanwhile, the President of the Synod, Bishop of Lagos Mainland, The Most Revd. Obafemi Adeleye congratulated the President-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on their election victories.
While he called on the latter to continue demonstrating excellent emotional intelligence, he charged the duo of Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu to address the alarming number of unemployed young graduates in the country.
