National President of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Reverend Stephen Baba Panya, has lamented that governors are unable to tackle insecurity following their inability to command security apparatus in their states.
He said this was because heads of security agencies do not take orders from governours, but from the Federal Government, adding that this was responsible for the worsening insecurity in the country.
Speaking at the commissioning of a church building and inauguration of the Edo/Delta District Council executives in Benin City, Panya stressed the need for establishment of state police and restructuring of the country.
He insisted that state policing and restructuring would be the solution for addressing the country’s security challenges, if the country was ready to end insecurity.
“The level of insecurity in the country has made it very clear that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has failed completely.”
So, there is the need for restructuring, especially in the area of security, so that states will have powers to command security apparatus in their domains.
“Some states have taken the initiative of setting up local security network, like the South West have established the Amotekun security outfit as a step to tackle security challenges in the country.
“Constitutionally, it is better to allow states to have their own security, be it state police or other outfits. The DSS should also be decentralised, so that governors could tale timely and decisive action in tackling the security challenges facing them,” he said.
He noted that members of the ECWA Church were some of the most persecuted Christians in the country, adding that its churches had been destroyed and its members killed in Southern Kaduna and currently in the Shiroro, Niger State attack.
On the COVID-19 pandemic, the cleric advised Nigerians to take precautions by observing social distancing and improving personal hygiene, stressing: “Coronavirus is real.”
He said the ECWA Church was known for mission to reach areas where the gospel was yet to penetrate properly, adding: “That is what we are going to do in Edo and Delta states.”
