Church launches weekly subsidised market for members

To alleviate economic challenges faced by its members amid rising cost of living, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Overcomers Assembly, Region 31 Headquarters, recently introduced a new initiative tagged, Anointed Family Market, a weekly subsidised market initiative for its members.

It is aimed at providing essential groceries and food items at affordable prices for it congregation, who got the opportunity to purchase items at a very low rate.

The initiative, spearheaded by the church leadership, Pastor-in-charge of the Region 31, Pastor Joseph Adeyokunmu, would be offering a wide-range of products including yam, spaghetti, rice, garri, noddles and a few others.

Leveraging support by some of its members and other stakeholders, Overcomers Assembly is able to secure these items and sell to church members at 70 per cent off its actual market rates.

One of the organisers, Pastor Felicia Adeyokunmu, said: “We saw hardship in the land and thought, through inspiration by Pastor Joseph Adeyokunmu, to do this. Despite what the government is doing, we decided to support them by giving our members 70 per cent discount off selected items. With this, our members would benefit and we want to take care of our members first. “

By the special grace of God, we will do this every Sunday and as we launch, we believe it would be a continuous initiative.”
“The market, set up in the church’s parking lot, would be set for every third Saturday and every Sunday of the year and its first week has already seen a significant turnout. Members appreciated the convenience of being able to purchase quality goods at reduced prices without having to travel far from their homes. The church has also implemented measures to ensure the safety and well-being of shoppers while at the purchase points.

“Looking ahead, Overcomers Assembly plans to expand the range of products available at the subsidised market to meet the diverse needs of its members.

“Additionally, the church aims to establish partnerships to further drive down cost and support other vendors who would be the source of the items.”
