Chinese supermarket under NAFDAC investigation for selling unregistered products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commenced investigating Danyang Trade and Laofang Chinese Food Supermarket, Lagos, for allegedly importing and distributing unregistered products.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr Paul Orhii, who was represented by Mr Kingsley Ejiofor, Head of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of the agency, made the disclosure at a news conference in Lagos on Friday.

He said the supermarket, located at F17/18 H6, Oba Elegushi International Market Ajah, Lagos, had 20 types of unregistered products labelled in a foreign language without interpretation.

“ As at the time of investigation, 20 unregistered products labelled in Chinese language without English translation were discovered in their outlets.

“It might interest you to know that imported eggs – Tenge Egg, were among the products found in the premises.

“The offending products have been evacuated to our warehouse and the suspects have been interrogated and the investigation is on-going,“ he said.

Orhii said that the agency would continue to strive to ensure that Nigerians had good quality, safe and wholesome regulated products.
