As OPM pastor makes Record Hall of Fame

Supreme Council Nigerian Books of Record Research Centre has charged Nigerians to stop celebrating wrong people but to locate people with credible records and celebrate them.

Director-General of the Centre, Prof. David David, said it would usher in uprightness in the country and encourage people to do the right things.  David stated this, yesterday, in Port Harcourt,  when the Centre  inducted the  General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (O.P.M.), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, into the Nigerian Books of Records Hall of Fame and also decorated him with Fellowship Award.

Apostle Chinyere, known for his humanitarian works, is the cleric that relocated Deborah Yakubu’s family,  a young  Christian lady murdered in Sokoto by her classmates by stoning her to death. The cleric offered Deborah’s family a fully furnished two bedroom flat, a car and placed her younger siblings on scholarship.

Last year, the International Human Rights Commission gave the cleric a global award for his social services, which include rehabilitation of street girls, ex-cultists, and the underprivileged, among others.

Performing the decoration at his church headquarters in Port Harcourt, David said Chinyere was honoured in recognition of his untiring commitment to humanity and contributions to national development.

He said: “We decide to go on the good sides of Nigerians, the positive sides of the contributions of Nigerians. We discovered that Nigerians are very good at celebrating the wrong people. So, we go after people, who have credible records and to tell the world that there are Nigerians with credible records to celebrate despite the global poor image

“The Nigerian Books of Record is a very good project driving the vision of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, that ‘change begins with you and me’ campaign. It is believed the change can begin with you as a Nigerian. That is why we are making the information available, especially for young Nigerians.

“When they see records of Nigerians, who have done well, they know that there is hope for them as young people.”

Responding, the OPM General Overseer said the honour would spur him to do more in lifting humanity with social services.

“I am highly elated, excited. I never expected this. This honour will propel me to even do more for humanity.

“I didn’t ask for the recognition. But, being recognised by government, I will really do more for humanity in this year, 2023. A lot of things are on the way. Let us believe in God.” He, however, noted that another important area to alleviate the sufferings of poor Nigerians would be to establish a free university.
