Buhari pays thank-you visit to Imo today

BuhariPRESIDENT-ELECT, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, is scheduled to visit Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, today, Tuesday, April 7, to thank the electorate for their show of support during the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly polls.

Buhari and his party — the All Progressives Congress (APC) — lost in Imo with 133,253 votes, while President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had 559,185 votes in the said polls. Overall, the President-elect’s APC defeated the PDP with some 2.6 million.

According to a statement issued by Governor Rochas Okorocha’s Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media, Mr. Onwuemeodo, the Buhari’s visit would be celebrated at at the Heroes Square, along the Imo Concorde Hotel Boulevard, Owerri at 10 a.m.

Onwuemeodo also urged the people of the Southeast and those in the Diaspora to be part of the “success story” by supporting the APC.

It states: “With every sense of humility and gratitude to the almighty God, the State Governor, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the Rescue Mission administration in the State have the pleasure to inform the people of the state, both at home and in the Diaspora that His Excellency, General Mohammadu Buhari, the President-elect on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be visiting the state to thank the people and government of the state for their unalloyed support that contributed greatly to his resounding victory at the poll on March 28, 2015.”
