‘Breath of Life’ Wins Big at the 2024 AMVCA Awards

The 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) held in Lagos, Nigeria, was a night to remember as ‘Breath of Life’ emerged as the biggest winner.

The highly-anticipated event took place on Saturday evening. It saw the biggest names in African film and television converge on Lagos.

The film is a masterpiece in the African film industry. It bagged five awards in the acting categories, demonstrating the exceptional talent and dedication of its cast and crew.

Originally nominated in 11 categories, some of which are Best Costume Design, Best Writing, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, and Best Sound Design.


The film got awards for Best Lead Actor (Wale Ojo), Best Director (BB Sasore), Best Supporting Actor (Ademola Adedoyin), Best Supporting Actress (Genoveva Umeh) and Best Film.

The criticism that trailed the nominations after Chimezie Imo, who played Elijah in ‘Breath of Life’, was left out from all the acting categories was laid to rest.

He was recognised with the Trailblazer Award for his immense talent.

Many fans believed Imo, a co-lead actor in the movie’ should have been nominated for his outstanding performance.


The AMVCAs are viewer-determined awards. They celebrate the contribution of African filmmakers, actors, and technicians in the success of the continent’s film and television industry.

Finally, as we look forward to the next edition of the AMVCAs, the success of ‘Breath of Life’ is an example of the heights that African cinema can reach.
