Borno monarch lauds WHO for supporting govts to eradicate diseases

Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi, has applauded the World Health Organisation (WHO) for eradicating various diseases through technical support to the state government.

According to the monarch, WHO has been working tirelessly with the Borno State government in providing better healthcare to over 2.5 million persons.

El-Kanemi made the commendation, yesterday, in Maiduguri, when WHO delegation visited the Shehu’s palace to mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) health agency.


“The presence of WHO in the state brought a remarkable healthcare delivery transformation,” he said, noting that many diseases, including cholera, polio, meningitis and measles were being eradiated in various communities.”

The monarch noted that WHO, in conjunction of other health partners, delivered essential, life-saving health services to millions of people.

Healthcare delivery services, he noted, were rendered to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees, women and girls, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors and vulnerable children in hard-to-reach areas in the state.

WHO, he added, supports health systems recovery, strengthens and coordinates efforts to prevent and control disease outbreaks in complex humanitarian emergency settings.

His words: “Succour was also brought to the people affected by the 13-year Boko Haram conflict, as well as the victims of the 2022 flood disaster.”

Those who visited to the royal father with WHO officials included state government officials from the Ministry of Health and Human Services as well as Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA).
