The Founder of NabelTech Consulting, Oluwadamilola Raji, has said that black people are underrepresented in the fast growing global technology space.
Raji, while speaking with journalists during a virtual interview, said the under representation has hindered the African region from competing adequately.
To address this situation, Raji said there should be more capacity building for the people, especially the youths in the country, stressing that they hold huge influence in helping to bridge the gap, especially for the region.
She said one of the reasons for the establishment of NabelTech was to deepen capacity building in the sector and adequately ensure there are capable hands that can innovate.
According to her, NabelTech Consulting was founded in 2017 but officially launched in 2022. She said the company was created to fill the gap that makes black people underrepresented in the field of technology. She stressed that the students NabelTech trains don’t need to learn how to code or have a Computer Science degree.
“NabelTech was born from the dream to bring more black people into tech and help them become financially and have excellent work life balance. The services we offer for now include consultancy services, helping immigrants to transition into tech and solutions like helping organisations to build websites and software applications. We also offer training in scrum, business analysis, software testing, and cloud computing. All these are non technical roles in tech,” she stated,
For Nigerians and black immigrants that want to make a career transition into tech, Raji gave the assurance that there are numerous roles they can fit into and advised them to believe in themselves, develop the right mindset and ask questions from those “who are already doing what they want to do.”
Raji, a Release Train Engineer (RTE), agile coach and Scrum Master, said she founded NabelTech Consulting in the United Kingdom, after moving there some seven years ago, offering a wide range of services that help individuals and organizations to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities required to push the boundaries of innovation and possibilities in today’s fast-paced dynamic world.
According to Raji, most Africans that relocated abroad usually put themselves in a fix working either as caregivers or adding additional certifications to become nurses, “I worked for a while before launching the company. She said from the pains of her past, a passion was ignited that led her to start NabelTech Consulting in 2017.”
