Bayelsa Polls: Sylva unveils four-point agenda

AHEAD of the December 5 governorship polls in Bayelsa State, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the State, (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva has unveiled his blue print to transform the state if he is elected.

Before an enthusiastic audience of party supporters, stakeholders and private sector operatives, Sylva, a former governor of the state rolled a four-pronged programme that he said would liberate the people of the State from the poverty and fear.

A statement made available to The Guardian by his media campaign Organisation in Abuja yesterday, quoted the governorship hopeful as tagging the programme as “The four legs stand as the standard of my administration.”

The four-pronged programme include: enhancement of revenue and diversify of the economy; job and wealth creation; wellbeing and security and effective public service.

In a presentation that lasted about 35 minutes, Chief Sylva said his programmes were integrated and designed to affect the lives of Bayelsans at all levels. He said that the people of Bayelsa State have keyed into the change mantra of the APC and are looking forward to meaningful leadership.

“Bayelsans are yearning for a change as 99 percent of Bayelsans are not feeling the impact of governance in the state,” he noted. More than ever before, the need for a change in guard is now urgent to stop the bleeding, reposition the state to deliver high-quality democratic dividends to the citizenry and pull the people out of poverty.”

The former governor said if elected once again, he would embark on agricultural development, infrastructure renewal and tourism. A diversified economy would put Bayelsa State on the right track, he said. He said said in order for to achieve job and wealth creation, he will focus on education, trade and services as well as youth development. On wellbeing and security, he noted that the core areas include health care, peace and conflict resolution and the environment.

Earlier the Head of his campaign and Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, praised the candidacy of Sylva and expressed confidence that about 75 percent of Bayelsans have indicated readiness to vote out incumbent Governor Seriake Dickson in less than a month.

Goodwill messages were delivered by a wide range of supporters and party leaders with sensational singer Omawunmi gracing the stage.
