In the last two weeks, 20 persons have lost their lives to auto crashes in Bauchi State, while 95 sustained varying degrees of injury in three accidents.
On March 7, 10 commuters died while 12 others sustained injuries in an auto crash along Jama’are–Azare Road in Katagum Local Council of the state.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yusuf Abdullahi, told newsmen in Bauchi that the crash involved a Gombe State Mass Transit Bus and a commercial motorcycle.
Abdullahi said 18 people were in the vehicle when the accident occurred while four people, who were on the motorcycle that collided with the vehicle, were killed. He said the accident was caused by excessive speeding.
Again, another seven persons reportedly died on March 17, while 83 others were injured in Kwanan Dallol in Darazo Local Council on their way from Gombe to Bauchi.
The Guardian learnt there were two accidents on March 17. The first accident happened in Kwanan Dallol in Darazo Local Council, where 72 persons were involved and six passengers died, while the second occurred in Dungulbi Village, where 18 passengers were involved and 17 injured. One of them died on the spot.
Also, three travellers crashed into a river in Tasham Turmi, a few kilometres away from Bara–Gombe Road in Alkaleri Local Council of Bauchi State. Their bodies were later recovered by fishermen after three days.
Abdullahi said: “There was a fatal crash on March 12, 2021 at Tasham Turmi along Bara-Gombe Road, involving a Toyota Corolla private car with Reg. No: AG111-TRR…”
