Bandits have killed the Chief of Gidan Usmanu Village, Auwal Wali, in his residence at the Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, the military confirmed on Tuesday.
Spokesman for the Army 6 Brigade, Oni Olubodunde, who confirmed the incident in a statement, added that the Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, conducted an operational visit to remote areas in Lau and Karim Lamido local councils of the state.
He explained that the visit was to reassure the local population of the commitment of troops to securing the citizens and to strengthen the partnership between the Army and the communities to flush out criminals within the area.
“We are here to express our condolences to the people of Gidan Usmanu and also to reaffirm our commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of Taraba State,” Olubodunde quoted Uwa as saying.
“Your support is invaluable to our mission, and we will continue to work together to ensure a secure environment for all residents.”
While encouraging the community to report any suspicious activities in the area for a prompt response, he stressed the crucial role of the people of Karim Lamido in supporting the brigade’s operations.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Karim Lamido Local Government and the Chief of Wurkun District, Britus Dan-Jos, has expressed their gratitude for the military’s continuous support.
He commended the strong relationship between the military and the people of Karim Lamido.
