APC wins 22 Assembly seats, PDP four in Ondo

• Four lawmakers out of eight win re-election bid
• Three females emerge victorious
• Police vow to prosecute arrested electoral offenders

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has won majority of seats in the House of Assembly. In the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC secured 22 out of the 26 seats, while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cleared the rest.


The four constituencies where the ruling APC lost were Akoko South-West Constituency 1, Akoko South-West Constituency, one seat in Akoko North-West and Akure South Constituency 1. With the development, only four lawmakers who were part of the Ninth Assembly would be returning to the House.

The four lawmakers who lost the bid to return to the Assembly include Favour Tomomewo (Ilaje 2, ADC); Toluwani Borokini (Akure South 1, APC); Tomide Akinribido (Ondo West 1, PDP); and Taofeeq Muhammed (Akoko Northwest 2, APC).

The four others who sought re-election and made it back to the Assembly were Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi (Owo 1, APC/Majority Leader); Oladiji Olamide (Ondo East, APC); Ololade Gbegudu (Okitipupa II, APC) and Abayomi Akinruntan (Ilaje I, APC), who is returning for the third term.

MEANWHILE, some persons suspected of unleashing electoral violence in parts of Ondo State during Saturday’s House of Assembly have been arrested.

The suspects, 15 in number, were alleged to be in possession of firearms. They were also accused of snatching ballot boxes, among others.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the arrest, said the electoral offenders would be dealt with in accordance with the Electoral Act.
