Multi-disciplinary creative Angelo Anosike, better known as Angeloh, recently got two nominations at the 2023 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), in the categories of Best Soundtrack and Best Sound Editor.
The double nominations are for his musical work on “Obara’m”, a Nollywood Cinema Musical he also starred in alongside Nancy Isime, Nkem Owo, Onyeka Owenu, many other household names in Nigerian entertainment today.
Angeloh is a Nigerian musician who uses a grand fusion of Afrobeats and RnB to explore themes of love and faith. Since his debut in 2017, he has gone on to become the first ever African-based artist to be nominated for Rapzilla’s Freshman Class (alongside Grammy-winning Tobe Nwigwe, and other global talents In 2018), and collaborated musically with renowned acts such as Waje, TY Bello, BOUQUI, and many more.
Angeloh collaborated with award-winning music and film score producer-composer Rodney Q Abia, and the movie’s award-winning Director Kayode Kasum (This Lady Called Life, Soole) to create the soundtrack for the film.
His 2021 single “Always” serves as a thematic anchor for the film, giving expression to the grief, loss, and hope that our lost ones will always be with us.
Other original compositions for the film feature powerful vocals by Onyeka Onwenu, Nancy Isime, Nkem Owo, Darasimi Nadi, rising Afro-Urban Christian music artists Obareengy and Kelarthrillz, and a feature by Angeloh and The Cavemen titled “Where You Dey”, with additional writing credits and vocal performances by Kesiena Philips-Odogwu, Oma Anyaogu, with mixing and mastering by bartholomew Emordi.
Principal photography began around February of 2022, with Angeloh starring as ‘E-Piano’ the “ajebutter” leader of Oluchi’s band in the city.
Since its release in August of 2022, Obara’M the movie has continued to win. It was well received at the cinemas, and has been screened at The Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, and Nollywood Travel Film Festival Athens, Greece.
The film had a total of 3 nominations (including Best Overall Movie (contending with Kunle Afolayan’s “Anikulapo”) at the just concluded AMVCA9, with Angeloh’s music serenading it all the way.
