Amotekun arrests three jailbirds, 64 other suspects in Ondo

Suspects

Men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, have arrested three jailbirds over their alleged involvement in various crimes across the state.

The commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, who identified the jailbirds as Taiwo Adeola, Juwon Olanrewaju, and Olajide Olayemi, said they were involved in crimes such as kidnapping and armed robbery.

Adeleye, who paraded the suspects along with 64 others at the headquarters of the corps in Akure, said the state would not be a safe haven for criminals.

He said: “We have a good number of suspected criminals arrested during operations across Ondo State. The 67 suspects were arrested within the last two weeks of the ‘-ember months’ programmes. Some were suspected kidnappers, and a good number of them were identified by their victims.

“Some were arrested with different types of weapons; some for housebreaking and suspected robberies and murders. Out of these suspects, we have three that could be regarded as jailbirds. One of them escaped from Benin following kidnapping and robbery charges.

“Another one claimed he was running away from fellow kidnappers because he refused to join them again. He was arrested after what he termed his ‘last operation’. He told us that he is a member of a seven-team kidnapping group terrorising the Iso/Emure/Owo axis. These are cross-sections of criminals troubling the peace of the state.”

The Amotekun boss added: “The major reason for parading them is to send a signal to criminals that Ondo State cannot tolerate them, and that the government is resolute in ensuring that they do not disturb the peace and stability of the state.

“I want to continue to reassure the good people of the state that Amotekun and all other security agencies remain resolute in our determination to continue to make Ondo State safe for socio-economic activities.
