Alake commends Buhari on establishment of federal medical varsity in Abeokuta

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into law, the establishment of Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to a letter he personally signed on behalf of the entire people of Egbaland, at home and in Diaspora, the monarch expressed profound gratitude to Buhari for his consent to the newly-established university.


Oba Gbadebo said that given the Egba’s acclaimed penchant for education for centuries, the new medical university would further cement his domain as a leading citadel of excellence.

“Mr. President, your gesture underscores your love for humanity, especially to the Egba people. Assuredly, your name shall be immortalised in the Kingdom’s Hall of Fame as a harbinger of education and capacity development,” the monarch said.

He, however, expressed regards, assurance, best wishes and highest consideration on behalf of his subjects, to the President, whose signature in the Establishment Act 2023 and its statutory pronouncement, added value to his domain.

Meanwhile, Tejuoso, while lending his voice to the landmark achievement brought to the region, commended Buhari, Oba Gbadebo and Senator Amosun, saying that the collaborative effort has yielded the desired result.

It would be recalled that the bill for the establishment of the university was introduced in 2018 to the Senate by the senator representing Ogun Central and Chairman, Senate Committee on Health (2015-2019), Dr. Lanre Tejuoso. And it passed the first and second readings on the floor of the Senate. His successor, Senator lbikunle Amosun, adopted and concluded the process.
