Akinpelu tasks incoming govt on power

Rt. Rev. Akinpelu Johnson

The Diocesan Bishop of Lagos Mainland, Church of Nigerian (Anglican Communion), the Rt. Rev. Akinpelu Johnson has called on the incoming administration of the President-elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put on the front burner the issue of power supply as it is very germane to meaningful development.

He added that Tinubu should not undermine the salient issue of security which is one of the major antidotes to an ailing economy as nipping insecurity in the bud will invariably encourage and embolden investors to flood Nigeria.

He made the comment, yesterday, at the 2023 Pre-Synod Breakfast Fellowship of the Diocese, which took place within the church premises at Ebute-metta.

Akinpelu disclosed the theme of the coming second session of the 6th Synod as “Confirmation, youth, the eucharist, sustenance for the journey ahead” that elaborates the importance and benefits of the Lord’s Supper which is Holy Communion, a spiritual commitment that not only reminds us of the death of Jesus Christ for the entire human race. Its observance, after genuine repentance and living a life of holiness guarantees our eternity with Jesus who promised to take this supper with us anew at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.”

Akinpelu described the problems mitigating against the progress of Nigeria as multi-dimensional.

“I call on those that have been elected into various offices to fear God who will bring them to book.”

The cleric implored them to seek the good of the nation and not of themselves, enjoining those who have taken petitions to the election tribunals should allow the tribunals to do its works.

He called on the youth and those taking the Holy Communion to accord it the reverence it deserves.

The Guest Speaker, Diocesan Bishop of Ohaji/Egbema, Owerri, Imo State, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Rt. Rev. Chidi Oparajiaku said that according to the scriptures, physical food does not absolve humans from dying, while the purpose of the Holy Communion is to live eternally with Christ after genuine repentance and living a holy life.

The Registrar, Diocese of Lagos Mainland, who is the Chairman, the Synod Planning Committee, Lady Chikwue Ochiagha, was happy with the successful hosting of the breakfast fellowship aimed at raising funds for the coming Synod, which was achieved.
