Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has extended his medical leave even as his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will continue as the acting governor.

Akeredolu on Monday forwarded a letter of extension of his medical leave to the state house of assembly, the receipt of which was confirmed by the speaker, Olamide Oladiji.

“The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is following the doctor’s advice on the need to take adequate rest after recuperating,” Oladiji said.

The speaker while announcing the receipt of the letter indicating an extension of Akeredolu’s leave said the governor had directed Aiyedatiwa to act in his stead.

Oladiji further stated that Aiyedatiwa would continue to act as governor “until there is a written declaration to the contrary”.

He expressed optimism that Akeredolu who is yet to return to the country would soon resume his duty.

Akeredolu earlier said he was in high spirits as he recovers and is ready to return to Nigeria soon after undergoing medical treatment abroad.

Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju said this in a statement last Thursday.

Ademola-Olateju said that Akeredolu also thanked the people of Ondo State for their prayers and support which have been a soothing balm.

According to the Commissioner, Akeredolu is in high spirits and expects to join the people of the State as soon as his doctors consider it expedient.

The Ondo State House of Assembly on June 13, 2023 confirmed the deputy, Aiyedatiwa as the new acting governor, stepping in for Akeredolu.

The Ondo Assembly stated this after receiving a letter from the Akeredolu, notifying it about his going on medical leave for 21 working days following his health condition.
