Sivasspor attacker, Ahmed Musa, has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles of Nigeria to go ahead and win the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Musa speaking to NFF TV said he and his fellow Super Eagles teammates are confident they can achieve this due to the quality of players in the final 25-man squad.

“Everybody is happy in camp, excited and just waiting for us to go to Abidjan for the start of the tournament,” the Super Eagles captain said with all confidence,” Musa said.

“Since after the last game in Uyo that the campaign started ‘Let’s Do it Again’, we’ve been talking to each other that this is the time for us to go there and shine because when you see the names in the 25-man squad, you can’t say we are not going there to win.

“In football, anything can happen but we have that confidence. When the coach came, the target he set for himself is to win the African Cup of Nations and by the grace of God, we are going there to do that.

“The message I have for Nigerians is just believe in the team, that’s the only thing we need. With their support we can go far.”

Musa alongside Kasimpasa defender, Kenneth Omeruo are AFCON winners with the Super Eagles in the 2013 AFCON in South Africa under the late coach Stephen Keshi.

He has, however, been more of a benchwarmer this season, having played just four games for a total 237 minutes of football action since August 2023 but has scored one goal for Sivasspor.

The 31-year-old on December 7, 2023 scored his first goal in 20 months to help Sivasspor secure a 2-1 win over Arnavutkoy Belediyespor in the fourth round of the Turkish Cup.

Musa in the process also finally opened his goal account for Sivasspor in what was his 28th appearance across all competitions in the colours of the Turkish clubside.

The Nigerian forward before then last scored on February 26, 2022 when his former club, Fatih Karagümrük defeated Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 in the Turkish Super Lig.

Nigeria, meanwhile, will be vying for a fourth AFCON title in Ivory Coast, having won in Lagos in 1980, Tunisia in 1994 and South Africa in 2013.
