Stop bullying Iwobi, Ahmed Musa begs fans after Ivory Coast defeat

Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has deleted all pictures on his Instagram page. This comes after Nigeria’s loss to Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), on Sunday.

The Nigerian team was defeated 2-1 by the host country, ending the team’s dream of a fourth AFCON trophy. Hours after the encounter, Iwobi, who has been a subject of stiff criticism from fans, deleted all photos on his Instagram page for fear of cyber abuse.

He only left one video post. The Fulham man also locked the comment section of the post for fear of bullying.
This was after fans abused him in the comment section of the pictures.

The Fulham midfielder featured for 79 minutes in the final as the Super Eagles failed to add to their three AFCON titles. However, captain of Nigeria national team, Ahmed Musa, has pleaded with fans of the Super Eagles to stop cyber attacks directed at his teammate, Iwobi.

Musa, who posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, asked that fans should halt the attacks directed towards the midfielder. He said: “Cyber bullying is not just a violation of decency but also a serious crime. It’s hypocritical to claim that football unites us while engaging in such behaviour.

“Losing a game is undoubtedly tough, but targeting a single player for the team’s shortcomings is unfair and unjust. We win as a team, and we lose as a team. Alex gave his all on the field, just like every member of our squad.”
