AFCON: Ferdinand, Saka, Abraham, others celebrate Super Eagles’ win over South Africa

Legendary Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, Bukayo Saka, and Tammy Abraham have congratulated the Super Eagles, on their AFCON 2023 semi-final win against South Africa.

Also, Super Falcons star Ashleigh Plumptre, Fikayo Tomori and Dominic Solanke celebrated the win.

The Eagles beat South Africa 4-2 on penalties after both teams played 1-1 in regulation time.

Stanley Nwabali was the hero for Jose Peseiro’s men as he made two saves to help the Eagles to a first final since 2013.


Following the hard-fought win, Ferdinand posted a photo of himself with a Super Eagles old jersey on his X handle.

Arsenal star, Saka, wrote ‘Super Eagles’ on his Instagram page, and posted a Nigeria flag.

Solanke took to his Instagram and posted a photo of an Eagles alongside a Nigerian flag. Tomori also posted a photo of an Eagle, a Nigeria flag, and a little rocket.


On her part, Plumptre wrote “Let’s go Super Eagles” while Abraham wrote “Last Push”, on their social media handles.

The final will be a rematch between Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, after their group stage clash.

A second half penalty from William Troost-Ekong secured a 1-0 win for the Eagles.
