The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has called on the Federal Government to ensure proper coordination of intelligence gathering mechanisms aimed at achieving a sole purpose of economic growth and national security.

He said that the escalating crimes of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and others ravaging the polity could be attributed to lack of intelligence gathering by the government.

Adams spoke, yesterday, during a security summit held at Alausa area of Lagos State where he said the summit was held to bring a lasting solution to the security challenges confronting Nigeria.

The summit was organised by Donxy Global Concept Limited, in collaboration with Ducaat Security Services Netherland.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, who is also the leader of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), said that the fundamental duty of every government anywhere in the world is the protection of life and property, noting that tackling insecurity can only be done effectively through intelligence gathering mechanisms.

He said that for any development to take place in any polity, evil must not be appeased, decisively dealt with and fought from all angles like the monster that it is, adding that this is where intelligence gathering comes in.

He, therefore, harped on the need to sustain coordination among security agencies, which he said, must be driven by purpose, adding that “there must be commitment and sense of urgency to promptly tackle insecurity anywhere it rears its head.”

He said that if in the last four years insecurity had been persistent, it means the Federal Government is still not ready to tackle the problem.

In his speech, Executive Director of Ducaat Security Services, Jaap Van Wissen from the Netherlands, while using his country as a case study of his professional expertise and experience, said that education is the key to security, saying that security personnel must be trained and pay attention to the environment.

Also, the Executive Assistant to Delta State Government on External Relations & Diaspora Affairs, Dr Sunny Ofehe, decried the rate at which foreign firms are leaving Nigeria due to insecurity and economy.
