Achebe urges institutions’ old boys to add value, intensify giving back to society

Worried by lesser funding of secondary schools, the Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Achebe, has harped the need for old boys of various institutions to contribute immensely to funding and building infrastructure in their alma maters.


Achebe stated this, at the weekend, during the Annual General Meeting (AGM), re-election of new executive and inauguration of some completed projects of the Owerri Government Secondary School, Imo State, including other projects worth about N20 million done by the 1974 sub-set of the college, represented by Architect Victor Oguamalam, which made it grandiose for the 50th anniversary (1974 -2024) of the set.
Also, the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, pledged to identify with the institution’s old boys in their quest to uplift their alma mater. He said this when they paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Owerri, at the weekend.

He told them that the state government is considering the possibility of establishing two other government secondary schools at Okigwe and Orlu zones to complement the already existing Government College Owerri to deepen education in the state.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, he gave the assurance to examine the pros and cons of having two government colleges at Okigwe and Orlu, following the request made by members of the old boys’ association.
