The event to be coordinated by World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), the charity of choice for International Women’s Day (IWD), would “make a global call to end gender bias, discrimination and inequality around the world. The year’s theme is: “Choose To Challenge.”
Speaking during an election of its new Chief Commissioner for the Nigeria Girl Guides Association, the outgoing Commissioner, Maria Goretti- Sule said: “As members of the world-leading movement for girls and young women, we are determined to transform challenges into change.
Chief Executive Officer at WAGGGS, Anna Segall, said: “Our partnership is one which we hold very dear. It provides us with a platform and opportunity not only to celebrate girls and women’s achievements but also to raise awareness of the need for greater progress on gender equality.”
Senator Bassey Ewa-Henshaw, said: “There are many areas of challenge for the womenfolk. All kinds of atrocities are committed against women…”
Meanwhile, Mrs. Rhoda Thomas emerged as the new Chief Commissioner, Mrs. Titilola Oluwatoyin (PRO) and Mrs. Lilian Damie as the National Project Commissioner.
