40 Lassa fever patients still hospitalised in Edo

Edo State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akoria Obehi, has said 40 persons, comprising 26 adults and 14 children, with Lassa fever disease, are still on admission at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH).

Akoria disclosed this in a statement by Crusoe Osagie, who is the Special Assistant, Media Projects to the state government. Akoria told journalists in Benin City that the patients were receiving medical care and responding to treatment.

She announced a total of 115 confirmed cases and 13 deaths from the disease, adding that the confirmed cases are spread across 11 councils in the state.

The commissioner noted that the government was stepping up efforts to contain the disease across all Edo communities. He urged residents to complement government’s efforts by complying with all protocols against the spread of the disease.

She further charged them to reach out to the disease surveillance or notification officers within their councils if they have been in contact with someone confirmed to have Lassa fever or suspect any symptoms of Lassa fever or any other priority disease.
