I’d like to pitch you a story exploring how the Nigerian government is struggling to handle the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in Africa’s most populous country.

Nigeria and Africa at large were relatively unscathed by the first wave but as Covid-19 tightens its grip, the situation is now becoming increasingly precarious.

I’ll explain the situation to an international audience and also share thoughts from health officers about their concerns and also parents whose kids have resumed school.

I’ll also look at the vaccine situation in Nigeria

Here are some words below.

Inequality gets in the way of Nigeria’s COVID-19 response

Nigeria has seen its COVID-19 case counts spike, but the enforcement of COVID-19 guideline protocols have been haphazard.

Nigeria’s states have implemented public health protocols. In Lagos, where cases have been skyrocketing, authorities seem to be more concerned about enforcing the virus protocol guidelines at entertainment spots while the coronavirus measures remain advisory everywhere else.

Hundreds of people have been arrested in bars and clubs for violating the protocols while continuous flagrant disregard of COVID-19 protocols in workplaces, religious centers, bus parks, market places, amongst others has been ignored by the government.

Also, while schools are opened, many government workers are ordered to work from home. Many parents have had mixed feelings about the schooling situation during this pandemic as COVID-19 cases rise.
Despite increasing COVID-19 cases and outbreaks, the school’s are not ruled out.
