• Ohanaeze dismisses Atiku’s claim of alliance with Obi

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 poll, have commenced harmonisation of structures across the country with the inauguration of the Obidient Harmonisation Committee (OHC).

Chairman of the committee, Joseph Enan Maigari, in his acceptance speech at an event, yesterday, said the team would ensure that the former governor of Anambra State emerged victorious in 2027.

He said the movement will ensure that the country is rescued from bad leadership. “We are a wounded people because of the failure of the past and current leadership, no matter on which side we stood. We all need healing. We, on the team, are no superhuman exceptions. We too need forgiving and to forgive ourselves to be able to wrestle the oppressors holding this country captive since 1960,” he noted.

Maigari added: “We will be engaging in what should be a corporate nationwide process of healing through contrition and forgiveness. To be able to forgive, one needs to know whom one is forgiving and why. That is why the truth is so central to this whole exercise.”

Meanwhile, the Chidi Ibeh-led faction of the Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, issued a statement yesterday, dismissing claims that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, was “forming alliances and stepping down” for Peter Obi.

The group, which described the idea as a “ruse” and “mere attempts to regain relevance through deceptive means”, said: “After enduring 17 years of perceived political deceit and betrayals since 2007, the assurances and pledges made by Atiku Abubakar hold little weight among the Igbo Nation. His words are likened to tissue papers; fragile and easily disposable, failing to resonate with a populace wary of being duped once again.”

It called for “discernment and clarity in engaging with political figures like Atiku Abubakar”, adding: “Cautious vigilance and a steadfast commitment to accountability remain paramount in navigating the intricate landscape of Nigerian politics, ensuring that the voices of Ndigbo are heard and respected.”
