15-year-old boy needs N1.16m for cancer treatment

Habeeb Bello

The family of a 15-year-old boy, Habeeb Bello, is desperately in need of N1.162 million to save their son from cancer. Bello was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the right upper limb, a form of bone cancer, last year, which necessitates urgent intervention.

According to research, osteosarcoma is a type of bone cancer that begins in the cells that form bones. It often occurs in the long bones that make up the arms and legs, though it could occur in any bone. It tends to occur in children and young adults.

The symptoms include: localised bone pain and swelling, and it can be treated through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Bello’s mother said when they realised that the condition of his right limb was becoming serious, they took him to several places, including Igbobi, oblivious of the health issue, until they were referred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

The father, Mr Rauf Bello, said after seeking help wherever they could, someone told him about the Gifting Volunteer Network (GVN), a non-profit organisation helping individuals with critical health issues to raise funds.

Today, Bello is currently being managed at the NSIA-LUTH in Lagos.  According to the medical reports the facility issued, Habeeb has received six cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

He is scheduled for external beam radiotherapy treatment for six weeks, which costs N1.162 million. Assistance to Habeeb could be made  through the phone number, 0802 343 1142; Account name, Adesina Habeeb Bello; FCMB Account No., 1019074748.
