14 detained Okorocha’s aides regain freedom

Aides to Sen. Rochas Okorocha, Eberendu Chiimechefulem and Steve Asinuobi and 12 others have been freed after meeting the bail conditions given by an Owerri court.

Royal Spring Palm Estate, which belongings to Okorocha’s wife, was sealed on the orders of the Imo State Government.

While thirteen of them were released on Tuesday evening from the Correctional Center, Owerri, where they were transferred to after the court had granted them bail, Okorocha’s ADC, Eberendu Chimechefulam was set free on Monday.

Justice B. U. Adikaibe, of the Owerri Magistrate Court Monday granted them bail with N 5 million each and surety who must be a traditional ruler.

The suspects arraigned were Darlington Ibekwe, Obasi Goodluck, Nwaiwu Ndubuisi, Median Ijeoma, Obor Victor, Sunday Chisom Ekpendu Peace, Nev. Raphael, Basil Mba, Steve Asimobi, Ebere Nwokeji, Ucheka Claudin and Olu Chizoba.

Meanwhile, Sam Onwuemeodo, media aide to Okorocha, who currently represents Imo West at the senate, in a statement issued Wednesday, said only two of the 14 arraigned persons, were aides of the ex governor.

According to him, the remaining 12 persons were social media influencer, cleaners and security guards working at the sealed Royal Spring Palm Estate, which belongings to Okorocha’s wife.

He said, “out of these 14 people, only Barr. Steve Asimobi and Mr. Eberendu Chimechefulam are personal aides of Okorocha. Asimobi is Okorocha’s Senior legislative aide, while Mr. Eberendu was Okorocha’s ADC. Mr. Ibekwe Darlington is a Social Media Influencer. The rest were cleaners and Civil Security guards at the Estate.”

“It is also interesting to note that, the Police arrested and arraigned innocent people and allowed the thugs with knives and guns to go untouched. That’s the worrisome part of this episode.” he added.
